Wordsmiths is a writer’s group that was established in 2014 by Dian Bowers, under the auspices of the South Simcoe Arts Council and in recent years, in liaison with the New Tecumseth Public Library. Members encourage challenge and critique each other’s written stories. In addition to sharing our written material, we often pick a writing prompt (a word, or a sentence for example, as a challenge); a starting point if you will, to ignite our creative juices. This is not only a lot of fun, it keeps us all writing new and fresh material on themes we may not have previously considered. Many of these challenges turn into fantastic stories or poems.
We are a group of people who have created warm relationships with each other. This works by getting to know each other’s abilities. At times we reach out to the other writers for advice about our creative work.
We benefit from the encouragement through the critiquing that we give one another. The writing challenges we create help us to explore ideas and unfamiliar genres. One of the best ways to learn is from each other. Each one of us has contributed knowledge wrapped in creativity which in turn nurtures our group. It also doesn’t hurt to have successful authors as members, to guide us. Their advice is truly worth a great deal.
Some meetings are through Zoom and some are in-person. Aspiring writers are welcome to join. Just send a request…
