Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner.  This year, let’s honour all those unspoken heroes that have molded our daily lives with a verse or two.

Is there a role model in your life?  Do you have a special memory of your mother or grandmother?  Do you have a neighbour or friend who is worthy of recognition?  Write a story or poem about them, or of your own experiences as a mother?

Submit an email to brendashort@writingblog.ca by April 30th for a chance to win $20.  No entry fee and you keep your copyright, but your entry may be published on writingblog.ca in the month of May.

Submit in a word document, Times New Roman font 14. Attach to your email.  If exceeding 1500 words, they may be serialized. Poems up to six stanzas or 30 lines.

International entries welcome.  In the case of a winner, prize money would be converted.

Hello everyone,

My tulips are finally peeking through and I can’t wait to see my garden full of flowers once again. Meantime, I have some stories and poems for you. We are ending the leprechaun stories with a charming tale from Dian Bowers, titled Polly and Erin’s Request. Then a story from me; a recent Wordsmiths challenge titled Sound Advice. A delightful poem from Mary Penner, titled Ah! Spring. And Finally a heartfelt story from Patricia Burnett, titled The Luncheon Cloth.

Please take this opportunity to send your feedback/comments.

Easter stories

Hello everyone,

Don’t forget to send me your stories about Easter or Spring. I will be publishing Easter and Spring stories in April. Your memories as a child, your customs as a family or simply a fictional tale. Customs from around the world would be particularly interesting, so why don’t you share…

March 21st

Hello everyone,

We are still celebrating all things Irish on writersblog.ca, with more stories, this time from Peter Pontsa – The Swans of Connemara and from me – Aisle and Shamus.

Also, a poem by Angela van Breemen – The Dancers and another from me -The Winter Sun.

Comments would be appreciated.  Tell us if you enjoy them.

I am putting out another request for Easter stories – anything from religious to Easter bunny and everything in between.  Alternatively, send me a story about Spring, everything growing, budding, renewal.  Have fun writing and share.

Coming up soon – a competition to write a Mother’s Day story.  No entry fee and a $25 prize.  Details next week.  As always, the copyright remains with you.
