Short’s Shorts for October 8th

Hello everyone,

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I was so distracted by the holiday that I forgot to post these stories. I have some interesting challenges for you this week, and I hope you will join in the fun.

Angie Rose Carnegie sent me a selection of 6-word stories…yes, that’s a thing…and I’ve published a few this week. It’s a little challenging until you get your head around it. How to tell a complete story in only 6 words…hmmm! I challenge you to write some and send them to me at brendashort@writingblog.ca.

The other challenge is to write an ad, humorous or serious, but something unusual. Are you advertising your services for compensation, or are you selling something tangible? Are you competing for a job, or joining a dating website? Your choice.

This week’s stories begin with an immigrant trying to make a living with disastrous results. “Gotta get a Parrot” by Robert O’Meara. Next is a poem from Angela van Breemen about the unpredictable changes in weather at this time of the year, titled “Fall’s Hot Flashes”.

The other story is one that I wrote recently, titled “The Unexpected Guest”, and is a ghost story.

Don’t forget to send me your comments for the authors and good luck with the challenges.

Bren
