Weekly Blog for August 28th

Hello everyone,

This week’s stories include the details of a childhood event recounted by me, titled “The Beach Monsters”, and a poem titled “The Birdbath” inspired by a long-forgotten piece of rusting metal that I revived recently. Then we begin again with the first chapter by Erin Frey in a new story chain, titled “Helen and Jim”. Our guest author this week is Mike Crompton with his tongue-in-cheek conspiracy theory about pandemics and alien participation, titled “Like the Genie In the Bottle”.

Also, this week features the first in my series of biographies. The subject for September is Mary Penner, writer, and poet. Read about Mary’s many talents and her interesting life so far in News and Current Events.

South Simcoe Arts Council will be launching its annual writing competition on September 1st. Stay tuned for details on this upcoming challenge.

Short’s Shorts blog for Aug 21st

Hello everyone,

This week’s contributions on writingblog.ca begin with a blast from the past from Peter Pontsa as he tells us of his car woes on an important date with a very interesting young lady, titled “The Little Black Cocktail Dress”. Then the fourth and final chapter of our current story chain by Angela van Breemen, titled “The Dinner Party”. Don’t forget that the previous three chapters can be found in the Archives, under Story Chains. A delightful poem from Tammy Tipler-Priolo inspired by her summer retreat, titled “The Painted Lady”. And finally, a “Lovey and Lass” story of the times from me, titled “To Shop Or Not To Shop”.

Make sure to tune in next week to read about an interesting life, when I feature the first in a series of biographies. The subject for September is Mary Penner, poet and writer. If you know of an interesting person that you would like to see featured, please contact me at brendashort@writingblog.ca.

Hello everyone,

Join me once again on writingblog.ca for this week’s stories and poems. We Begin with a story of a little boy and his dog written by me, entitled “A Match Made in Heaven”. Followed by the second chapter of our current story chain “The Dinner Party” written by Mike Crompton. You can find chapter 1 in the archives, under Story Chains. Then a poem about teenage angst by Mary Penner, entitled “Redemption”. And lastly, another story about Lovey and Lass, my fiesty old couple, entitled “The Plate Stickers”. I hope you enjoy the stories and send comments to me for the authors.

Also, I am sending out another request for short stories. The reservoir is running low, so if you can find time in your busy summer schedules, please send me a story or two. Otherwise, I may have to publish only every other week. In case there is confusion, you don’t have to be a member of any writing group, or within a certain age group to be published here. I’m looking for amateur or semi-professional writing and poetry. Please consider sending your work to brendashort@writingblog.ca
